Port of Hanstholm's prominent position in the transport industry is undeniable. Few Danish ports have locations that can rival that of Port of Hanstholm when it comes to transportation of goods by sea. This is a very important factor considering the Danish government's and the EU's aim of transferring as much freight transport as possible from land to sea.

January 2011 Thy Ferries Cargo A/S starts their freight connection Hanstholm – Kristiansand.

The ferry “Clare Express” is a Cargo ship with room for 12 drivers, 50 trailers and cargo on 756 meter.

As a result of the expansion, the port will be able to service large ships with up to 12.5 metre draughts. Combined with the port's 24-hour services, this will be crucial in terms of attracting new customers. At the same time, the large new areas around the harbour will provide lots of space for handling large quantities of freight.
