Green Energy In Hanstholm we continously work to create the perfect environment for people and companies wanting to research, develop or do business in future energy solutions. Primarily waveenergy. Wind and waves have always been a big challenge for Hanstholm. Now they are proving to be a unique advantage. Port of Hanstholm's development plan emphasises that the work on expanding the port must have a strong focus on green energy. We aim to be a zero-energy port - that is, a port that produces at least as mush energy as it consumes. The green energy is to come from the wind and waves. Hanstholm is the windiest place in Denmark, and this wind will be erected on the new piers, and wave energy will be integrated within the piers themselves.

Hanstholm is a perfect place for a wave energy centre because:
- Good wave conditions - the best in Denmark near a port
- Good water depths close to land
- The right pioneering attitude - on many levels
- The existing 24/7 emergency technical marine assistance can be expanded
- The area has an established history as a test site
- Reasonably close to Aalborg University
- Possible integration of wave energy plant in the new piers
- The industry, trade organisation and leading researchers identify Hanstholm as the right place for Danish wave energy testing and demonstration
More pilot projects have already been launched at Hanstholm. The first large commercial wave energy plant from Wave Star was established in September 2009 - and DEXA WAVE's plant is now ready to be testet in Hanstholm.

DanWEC – Danish Wave Energy Centre
Hanstholm is making the most out of having the best waves in Denmark.
In May 2010 the commercial foundation DanWEC was founded. This stands for the Danish Wave Energy Centre. The foundation's aim is to establish and operate a test and research centre for the development of wave energy.
The centre is based in a building near the Roshage pier, where the first test plant, Wave Star, has been constructed. This location, with a view of the test plants and the new piers with the windmills and wave energy, is a clear sign of the port's intention to create lasting sustainable energy sources in Hanstholm.
