30 million DKK for the development of the port

On Friday 26th November the arms of the employees at the Hanstholm Port office jumped up when they learned that the port had been granted 30 million DKK for further development of the work that is being performed to get the plans into place before the construction work begins in 2012.

Port Director, Ms. Birgitte Klittenberg Juhl, tells that there has been an ongoing positive dialogue with the politicians and that any occasion has been used to inform of the plans for the Port of Hanstholm.

- We have a good and important plan for the Port of Hanstholm and the money will strengthen the Port as well as the Municipalities of Thisted and Mors, says the Port Director, pointing out that the grant is part of “Port Package 2”, which has special focus on the West Coast harbours.

Port of Hanstholm works on developing the basis for an extension, which includes an extensive job finishing the Climate and Environment Research, which has to be ready by the end of 2011.

- We are in a process of designing the port to provide it with appropriate access conditions and we also examine how the sand depositing at the port entrance can be reduced, the port director explains, and adds that with the grant, the work can continue at the right speed.

Ms. Birgitte Klittenberg Juhl sees the grants as a recognition of the efforts so far and a support for the development of the Port of Hanstholm as well as a support for the region.

Port of Hanstholm has further applied for a grant of DKK 11 million at the EU, but according to Ms. Birgitte Klittenberg Juhl the port has not yet received an answer.
