30th April 2008 is the date when General Manager Hans Kjaer, Port of Hanstholm, has chosen to end his more than 37 years of work with ports, latest as General Manager of the Port of Hanstholm, where Hans Kjaer has been active from the beginning of the new era as self-governing port from 2001, where he came from the Secretariat of State Harbours at Frederikshavn.
The timing is carefully chosen as a Development Plan for the Port of Hanstholm has been agreed upon. A plan which the Port of Hanstholm, in close dialogue and cooperation with companies and commercial operators of the port, will endeavour to realize within a time frame of 5 to 10 years as of course, simultaneously, a commercial development of the new possibilities provided by the development plan must take place. Especially a further development of the Port of Hanstholm as the central fishing port in respect of fish landings, by converting the present ferry/fish pier to a regular fish pier, is referred to. This will be done by moving the ferry traffic out into the coming new basin, which will also give the ferry operators new possibilities.
For the future commercial development of the Port of Hanstholm, Hans Kjaer is of the opinion that a General Manager with a different profile is necessary and Hans Kjaer has chosen to step aside not to stand in the way of the future development of the port. Thus it is already now ensured that the new Manager from the beginning, together with the commercial operators and companies of the port, are able to prepare the basis of the future commercial development.
The Board of Directors of the Port of Hanstholm has chosen to accept this decision, which may generally be executed as the daily operation and development of the port moreover has been taken care of. However, to ensure continuity it has been agreed that the Port may call upon Hans Kjaer’s great knowledge of ports also in the future.
The Board of Directors will now work on a tight schedule to find a new General Manager through the company Friis International, so that the new Manager can begin work as of 1st May 2008.
