Hanstholm Harbour to be improved for 10 mill. Euro

The most ambitious improvements since the harbour was built…
Increased water depth has long been a wish for users of the Port of Hanstholm. This wish will soon be satisfied as contractors’ machines begin on the task of deepening the water in parts of the harbour to nine metres. There will be a simultaneous cleaning of the harbour.
Harbour deepening will mean that in future, Hanstholm will be able to accommodate much larger vessels than at present. This will be important for the future of the port but also for fishing, ferry operators and companies established in the harbour area, which will now be able to service much larger ships.
In addition to the deepening, the project includes new quays and wharves, new trawl space for fishermen, new trawl landing-stage and a new site for trailers (see below for further)
The project will cost a total of ca. DKK70 million (€10 million) and has been described as the most ambitious development plan since the harbour was built.
Time plan. Between September 2005 and September 2006, new quays will be built and a nine-metre depth of water will be provided for vessels landing both consumer fish and industrial fish.
The cleaning and deepening of the harbour will be completed before Christmas. The work on wharves and quays will then be started. The new quay intended for the unloading of industrial and pelagic fish will be ready in March 2006.
The extensive building programme cannot but have an effect on harbour users, but Port Director Hans Kjær has called for understanding of any inconvenience caused by the work to be done.
Trailer space..
Ten times more trailer space …
We are at present working on a ten-times larger trailer space behind basin three. With more than 30,000 m2, it will be ten times larger than the present space.
There will be established electric power connections for refrigerated trailers. The new trailer space will also benefit the ferry operators – Smyril Line, Fjord Line and M-Line in their day-to-day work. We look forward to an improvement in harbour logistics with this new space.
We expect a part of the trailer space to be ready for use after Christmas 2005 and the trailer space in all before the summer season 2006.
When the trailers are moved away from basin three a new trawl space can be established (see below)
Trawl space:
Fishermen will be able to carry out minor repairs and roll out their trawl nets on the trawl space to be established at the end of basin three (see illustration on page 3)
… and this will be possible without vehicles driving across the trawls.
We expect the trawl space to be ready for use by yearend 2005.
