Inauguration of Hanstholm Seafood Centre in Denmark

Creation date: 29 August 2005

On Friday 9th September 2005, the Hanstholm Seafood Centre, situated in the Danish Port of Hanstholm, will be inaugurated by Lars Barfoed, the Danish Minister for Family and Consumer Affairs.

The Port of Hanstholm will be inaugurating stage two of the unbroken refrigeration chain and will thus have Denmark’s most up-to-date fish handling system.

The inauguration is part of the continuous development and optimization of the port facilities for fishermen, fish exporters, other users of the harbour and thus indirectly, and not least, consumers.

The existence of an unbroken chain of refrigeration from fishing vessel to sorting plant and further to the auction hall is vital for the future of the Port of Hanstholm.

The establishment of the unbroken refrigeration chain will also see the inauguration of a super-modern fish handling plant ensuring careful and efficient handling of fish and the best conditions for the employees.

The new, automatic sorting plant has been supplied by Marel Scandinavia A/S.

The Port of Hanstholm has placed the running of the plant in the hands of Hanstholm Samlecentral A/S, which, on the same day, will move into its welfare and administration premises, newly built as an integral part of the Seafood Centre.

The basic concepts behind the sorting plant are:

  • fish is to be sorted as carefully as possible
  • all registration to be done electronically
  • a first class working environment
  • the whole process to be as automated as  possible
  • full traceability in the system.

The sorting plant can sort fish of all species, size and quality. All simple and uniform processes, such as ice dosing and sorting by size, are automated, whilst such tasks as quality assessment will continue to be carried out by skilled personnel working in an improved environment.

Hanstholm Samlecentral’ expects the sorting plant to produce better quality and greater efficiency of sorting. The new plant will also ensure significant improvements in the working environment.

The programme for the inauguration is enclosed and we hope to be able welcome everyone interested, including members of the press.

A grant of up to 50% of the costs of investment has been made by FIFG.
