New chilled auction terminal at Port of Hanstholm

Opening ceremony at Port of Hanstholm for new chilled auction terminal on 10^th June from 2 to 5 PM. The ceremony will be performed by the Mayor, Mr. Erik Hove Olesen, and locals from the port.

The new chilled auction terminal at Hanstholm is now ready to open. The quantity of fish landed at Hanstholm has increased during the past years, and the increased water depth at the port has attracted more and more vessels, and thus the need to have the new chilled auction terminal has been growing. 24 million DKK has been invested in the construction, of which FIFG (Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance) has granted 12 million DKK, and with the new chilled auction terminal, Port of Hanstholm is now able to guarantee sufficient chilled auction capacity for the huge quantities of fish landings.    

Together with the new chilled auction terminal a new cold storage, freezing plant and lockage have also been built in connection with the existing Seafood Center. The previous auction terminal has at a previous stage been rebuilt to a modern chilled terminal and since then new staff facilities and a modern grading plant have been added – these projects all together constitute Hanstholm Seafood Center.

With this new project it is also obtained that Hanstholm Collection Central and Thorkild Gron’s Collection Central are a part of the Hanstholm Seafood Center concept – the unbroken cool chain from landing, grading, sales and transportation away from the auction.    

In relation to the development plan agreed upon for the Port of Hanstholm, the new chilled auction terminal is also situated quite centrally, as one of the future plans is to convert pier 2 into a fish pier. This will make it possible to land directly to the two collection centrals from the quay.  

Port of Hanstholm receives many foreign vessels and is thus the most international fishing port in Denmark.

At the opening ceremony it will also be possible to meet the new General Manager of the Port, Ms. Birgitte Juhl, who started 1^st May 2008. Ms. Birgitte Juhl comes from a position as Development Manager at the Municipality of  Vesthimmerland and has also great experience from project management and financing of public investment projects.
